United Bible Society-BIBLES FOR CHINA
Amity press Nanjing - Jiangsu province -
Since the new large site was acquired and the up-to-date presses have been installed in 2008 Amity Press has the potential to print 12,000,000 Bibles each year (that's 2,900 per hour) as they can run the presses 24 hours a day in 3 shifts. Also the new presses are able to use thin paper and can thus print Bibles in many languages for other countries
Amity Press does not distribute the Bibles ; they are sent out by local churches (about 55,000), from government recognised distribution centres, by van and often on foot to many rural areas whose roads are only accessible to animals and pedestrians.
At Holy Trinity we are committed, with others, to find the
money for the paper on which these Bibles are printed; 60p.
buys enough paper for a Bible - £2 for 3; the Bibles are printed
in small pocket editions for the equivalent of 68p. and full sized
ones (which are subsidised) for £1.16.
In addition in 2008, Planet Life, our young people’s ministry,
collected enough money to print 203 Bibles - each year more are being provided by our young people.
