Belonging
Baptism also expresses belonging. It is the way we welcome a person who becomes a member of the church. In the baptism service there are important statements and promises made about how a person intends to belong to the church or bring their children up learning what it means to be a Christian and a member of the Church. For this reason baptism always takes place in the regular worship of the church. At Holy Trinity we do it on the second and fourth Sundays of the month.
Because of the important nature of the questions about belief and the promises about belonging, and because they are made publicly, baptism is one of the most important things a person can do in worship. Therefore it is right that those who come for baptism, or bring their children for baptism, should be equipped to say them knowing what they mean and with a clear conscience intending to carry them out.
