Banns
·
A marriage ceremony happens after ‘banns’ have been called. ‘Banns’ is the ancient way of announcing of the forthcoming wedding proposals within the community so that anyone who knows a reason why it shouldn’t happen can say so in good time.

You have to apply for ‘banns’ to be called in the parishes where you and your fiancé live, as well as at the church where the wedding will take place if it is different. There is a standard fee in each parish where ‘banns’ are called. Contact the Vicar of each parish and they will either send you a ‘banns’ application form or make arrangements to take the relevant details from you.

At Holy Trinity ‘banns’ are called in the first three weeks of the month preceding the month in which the wedding will take place, usually at the 10:30am service.
